Spiritual Whispers to the Soul by Heather D. Wright

Spiritual Whispers to the Soul is my first collection of poetry published by my newly created self-publishing company, Colorful Spirit Publishing. This book has been in the works for quite some time now, and it reflects the very essence of my heart and soul.

It is my hope that, as you read my poetry collection, that you will find the spiritual strength you have been seeking to face hard times and to know that you are not alone. I promise you that there is a poem in this collection that covers so many aspects of human suffering, and yet through God’s guidance, He helped me to discover through my own life lessons, how to convey my own spiritual truths to all of you as well as the valuable lessons I have learned along the way.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My writing is very deep and from the very essence of my heart and soul. Every word I write is truly from the breath of God, and within each of the words He has given me, I know that somehow each word is meant to encourage and inspire others to keep the faith and not lose hope. God is my best friend, and He is also the One who has inspired me to reach others through spiritual words that can both uplift and inspire. I hope that with His guidance and strength I can continue to help others in the best ways possible,

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
As for advice for other writers, I would say never lose hope in what you write and the difference you can make in other people’s lives. I have always loved words, and I love being able to express myself in dynamic, spiritual ways. In fact, I encourage any aspiring writer to look closely at the words you write and always think about how those words can encourage the broken spirit of those searching to find a new path to make their lives stronger and more encouraged. Spiritual Whispers to the Soul changed my life for the better through both the writing and publishing process. It is my desire that it can be a source of inspiration to other writers as well as they seek to encourage the world with the words they were meant to write, just as I feel God led me to do with my first book. My best advice is keep the faith, and never stop writing!

My name is Heather Dawn Wright, and I am from Morganton, North Carolina. Currently, I live in the beautiful mountains of Boone, NC and have lived there for 10 years now. I am a full time computer technology instructor for a local community college with a passion for writing. Ever since I was a child, I have had a passion for writing. It has always been a desire I have had to write inspirational and spiritual words that could help encourage and motivate others.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Just like so many people, I have endured some of the hardest times in my life and could not understand why God would allow me to struggle so much. Even though God has blessed me with a wonderful family, good friends, and abundance in terms of work and other opportunities, my path has not always been an easy one. As I look back over the history of writing these poems, I was inspired to write about so many different experiences God wanted me to go through. In fact, it has been through my struggles and the writing of these poems, that I have grown closer to God and become an even stronger spiritual soul.

As you read Spiritual Whispers to the Soul, I truly do have faith that you will hear spiritual wisdom echoed through practical experiences as well as feel encouraged knowing that you are not alone in your struggles. My prayer is that these poems offer much faith, hope, love, inspiration, encouragement, and healing to your own soul that is in need for guidance. I also hope these poems help you embrace your own destiny and learn valuable truths on your own journey in life.

Carolyn Howard-Johnson

Carolyn Howard-Johnson’s first novel, This Is the Place, won eight awards. Her book of creative nonfiction, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered, won three. She has been an instructor for UCLA Extension world-renown Writers’ Program for nearly a decade and her book The Frugal Book Promoter, now in its second edition, was named USA Book News’ Best Professional Book, and was given the Irwin Award. Her second book in the How To Do It Frugally series, The Frugal Editor: Put Your Best Book Forward to Avoid Humiliation and Ensure Success is also a multi award winner. Her chapbook of poetry Tracings, was named to the Compulsive Reader’s Ten Best Reads list and was given the Military Writers’ Society of America’s Award of Excellence. About the Photographer

Ann Howley came to photography through her love for travel. She photographs nature, landscape, and travel and has adventured on all seven continents in search of her images. She has trekked on the Inca Trail, to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, to Mount Everest base camp, and walked 500 miles along the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. She has been up close and personal with penguins in Antarctica, polar bears in Canada, and mountain gorillas in Uganda. Ann received a Culture and Arts Honorable Mention from Smithsonian Magazine and has been featured twice in the Member Showcase of North American Nature Photography Association. Her photography was included in Suenos/Yume—Fifty Years of the Art of Dora De Larios which won for Best In Show Book Design by the American Advertising Federation.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Maggie and I are two authors from two hemispheres who inspire one another to write! She’s an Aussie and I’m from California. We decided to start the Celebration Series of chapbooks because we love poetry and seems to click in many other ways, too, like the love of nature. Sublime Planet is the first full-sized book in the series. Proceeds from it go to the World Wildlife Fund.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Just write and write for yourself.

Author Bio:
How I began writing? Well, it just sort of happened. I never studied writing or thought to become a writer. While growing up I always enjoyed reading and focused most on reading fantasy. In my teens I began collecting comic books like the X-Men and a few titles from Jademan comics. When I did start to read with some level of seriousness I was drawn to reading philosophy. As a kid though, I read mostly comic books. I began to write at about age twenty-six and up until then, I did not read poetry except what was required for high school English. I never really got into poetry and was more interested in plays by Shakespeare and the Odyssey and Iliad (both read as plays) but I couldn’t really say I studied them in depth. When I decided to read something other than comic books I took to philosophy, reading Goethe (pretty tough at that age), Kierkegaard, Socrates, Plato and Nietzsche (also pretty tough). I enjoyed the peeling back of the layers and finding what was hidden under the surface. I enjoyed finding the truth within me from self examination and the psychological state of “Man” as expressed in philosophy. Philosophy and plays have had a lasting influence on the poems I write. Goethe’s Faust and Shakespeare’s plays have been the most influential. I like the content from philosophy and the cadence of plays. Plays may not always rhyme but they usually have a meter or cadence similar to a song. Music is another pretty strong influence in my writing from artists/bands VnV Nation, Assemblage 23, Cold, Radiohead, Starsailor, and Tool, to name a few.
When I write a poem I do not have a particular form or style in mind. I get an idea for a line and go from there ending when I feel it’s done. The poem sort of takes on a shape of its own and I never know if it will be completed in a few minutes, or (this is pretty rare) if it will take up to a few weeks. I’ve found it really helps to always have some paper and something to write with around no matter where I am or what I’m doing because I never know when a line will pop into my head. I have tried to remember a line for as many as twelve blocks while walking my dog Ringo because I’ve forgotten to bring paper with me. I’ve imagined if the line is good enough I could hold it in my head until I get to a notebook. I’m still working on that one though. Most often the line is gone by the time the walk is over.
I started writing poetry in 2001 to capture and organize my feelings to help me deal with a relationship break up. I have been writing on and off since. I didn’t handle the break up well and of course I was miserable, but if it had not happened I may not be writing now. So, on that level I have to say I have some gratitude for the hard times. One day while sitting around one day thinking it came to me that I felt a need to write poetry. I’m still not sure why it came to me but it did. I thought, “ What do I know about writing poetry?” I had to be honest with myself that I knew nothing about poetry. After a week or two I came to realize that my knowledge or lack of it did not matter. It only mattered that I start writing, not what I wrote or how I wrote just that I wrote. I find poetry is a good fit for me since all through my English courses the teachers always said my sentences were too fragmented. Well, I figure you have to play to your strengths. Fragments work well in poetry so it’s a natural fit. Here’s a short one to give you an idea of my style.

Three Hundred Ninety Eight
The assumption of the presumption of the first thought
The book read before the pages upend
So sure of our perspective
Judge and jury
With no time for deliberations
For fools they be who are not to our thought receptive
Fact and fiction fall before pretext
A self-conscious guise to feeling
Where ego stands
Right and wrong crumble

I moved to the West Seventh area in 2000 form Moline, IL and found an apartment in the 200 block of Goodrich Avenue. I bought my current home in 2007 roughly 300 feet from the apartment. I really enjoy the area here and explore it regularly walking Ringo. Just don’t ask for directions because I’ll probably just get you lost because I still don’t remember many street names. I work as a heavy equipment operator at a bulk commodities and grain elevator in Saint Paul operating a shovel mostly.
My poems are pretty personal so I felt I had really put myself out there when I published my first book. Mary Hogan Bard and Deborah McWatters Padgett prodded me to do some public reading at Claddagh Coffee. I’m beginning to get used to the vulnerability of sharing my words and now I’ve done three public readings.
After this book I’m looking forward to a second book(in the works), more readings, and, well, just learning what life offers and accepting it with a smile.

Sconnettts 51 Shakespearean Sonnets by Scottt Raven by Scottt Raven

Sconnettts is a collection of more than fifty poems by Scottt Raven reflecting on various aspects of love; from first love to fiancee with everything in between. The book also includes sonnets about Arnold Schwarzennegger, Lebron James, and Jean Claude Van Damme with special E-book only bonus sonnets about The Coen Brothers, Saved By The Bell and more.

Whereas permission was granted for the first 30 poems in using all names that appear in print, the quotes in the back of the book were written as a series of Lovers’ Complaints from former girlfriends of the author giving them the last word on Scottt; a subtle homage to the appendix of the originally published Shakespearean Sonnets of 1609. Sconnettts is part love-story part pop-culture in pentameter.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Wake up at eight and create, 9, 10. Or sleep late then pick up pencil or pen. It’s fine if nothing comes out except for one line. Accept one line or two, three lines or none. Rhyme, off-rhyme or get off rhyme and pun. Notebook or notebook, diary or blog, update your status or go for a jog. Write a little every day or write a lot– your choice. It’s okay to emulate someone else’s style until you find your voice. Ponder every sentence–every word–every letter, let it go for others to enjoy, but don’t let strictly monetary gain measure when you’re better. Listen to me or plug your ears, write what scares you and confront your fears. Living life’s exciting, why you reading this when you could be writing?

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Go for it! Write what you love, what’s in your heart, what inspires you. These are the things that will make your writing great.

Author Bio:
I have been an avid reader since I was a young child – happily sacrificing TV and playtime in order to read a good book. I have been capturing observations, feelings and events in poems and stories since middle school. As I have grown older, I continued to write and create stories to entertain family and friends and to help celebrate life’s special moments.

For many years I suffered from symptoms that went undiagnosed. After years of suffering and searching for answers, I was finally diagnosed several years ago with Fibromyalgia and some other underlying conditions. With a well-rounded, holistic treatment plan I am feeling better and living a more active and joyous life.

I am passionate about education in all formats. Since 1999 my professional career has focused on the design and development of training for employees across industries and educational formats. I have specialized in analyzing the need for training and assessing the best method for training and delivery (classroom, live virtual training, blended, web-based training, etc). My writing skills assisted me in delivering solutions that engaged learners and translated to application on the job.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Organizational Development and Human Resource development as well as my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

I live in Kansas with my husband, teenage son and our two gorgeous, ornery and energetic Scottie pups (Conner and Zoe). In my spare time I enjoy photography, spending time with family and friends, and traveling around the world with family.

Shakespeare Sonnet Word Games First Foolery by Joe Wocoski

I have come up with a new word game book series of 5 books with 5 different types of word games in them based on Shakespeare’s sonnets. I have released the first two books in the series. They are fairly easy word searches where you find the words in a sonnet on the same page. The second type of puzzle is a word scramble where you unscramble the words and find them in a sonnet. The third type of puzzle is what I call number Fumbles and the vowels are replaced by different numbers, you can actually read these sonnets without the numbers in them. Then I have a Da Vinci Code section where each word is spelled backward and you decipher each word writing the answer between the lines. The final section is a simple cryptogram letter for letter. The whole idea is a word game book that turns Shakespeare’s Sonnets into fun problem solving games and to use the sonnets as part of the answers that everyone from teens to oldsters can enjoy.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
Creating Word Games is more focused, methodical and precise process oriented, one puzzle page at a time rather than a story line that flows over a given period with a plot. The plot is to solve each puzzle and discover Shakespeare’s Sonnets at the same time.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Give yourself a break and make your writing fun. Create your own writing process so you can enjoy spending your time what is between your ears. If you get bogged down, save the file you are working on and move on to writing something else, or change your work focus to another section or poem or book you are working on. Practice your writing with the goal of completion, the hardest part in writing is knowing when you are done. Write something, put it down, then return to it to edit it later in day or a couple of days later, you just might discover a whole part of it you want to change or that it is done. I learned more about writing by studying the business of publishing, learn the scams and avoid the pitfalls. The most difficult part of writing is when you are done, what do you do next. It is fairly obvious when you think about it.

Author Bio:
I started out as a technical writer and have lost count of the numerous white papers, technical manuals, processes and procedures I have written and edited. I write poetry when I least expect it, and have self-published my poetry as an experiment to learn the self-publishing business. I have just completed my first series of word game books, which I enjoyed immensely as I worked to create them. I do my own cover art work and design, and promotions.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I could not find a word game book that was meaningful, and fun to do. I enjoy word searches, scrambles and cryptograms but all other books on the market did not seem to have a theme or were bland one shot word solving. I wanted something more. So I linked word searches and scrambles and what I call number fumbles, and Da Vinci codes to my series of Sonnet Word Games. Where Shakespeare Sonnets play a key role to give you a more challenging and fun experience.

Muses of Wandering Passions by Chimnese Davids

Even though one cannot calculate happiness, there arise lessons from reading this book, such as: eternal love cannot be neutralized by separation; and: the broken heart is not powerless. One cannot fight reality; leaving does not mean stop loving; separation does not imply forgetting; mourning is not necessarily not forgiving. Even the forgiving heart may mourn; but even more, must mourn, in order to heal, finally.

I was always told by other writers that for one to write a book is to always use your experiences overall and always write the book you want to read…I have kept that advice and started to write prose literature & poetry. The book is poetry and text, but it symbolizes the life or ordinary people. I am inspired by many things of the human behavior and that intrigues me to uncover what the mouth can’t speak.

I have enjoyed art since childhood. I live in th beautiful Hocking Hills region, and have worked in the blue-collar industry most of my life. I love writing and have a special interest in historical Southeast Ohio. In addition, I enjoy oil and acrylic painting, traveling and sewing.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I have enjoyed art since childhood. I have written and rewritten for many years. I have four novels being launched by Melange Books in the summer and fall of 2013. This is my first poetry book, and I wanted to put my many poems down on paper.

Author Bio:
My name is Carlton Steele. I was born and raised in New York and now reside in Virginia. I always knew I had the talent to write but I never knew how to pursue it. Until one day I started writing poems about the love of God. I knew one day I would have to share it with the world. So I kept writing until I formed a book called Poems of Encouragement. I write poems to encourage and inspire other people. We go thru alot in this world and sometimes you need a word of inspiration. When you are down and out, when you have noone to turn to, God is there to wipe your tears. My poems are encouraging and will help you find your way.

Roses and Rue by Deborah Carney

Artist Deborah Carney combines art of roses with the poetry of Oscar Wilde to create a beautiful new version of an old classic.

Deborah Carney has been a freelance photographer for over 35 years, covering events, weddings and cat shows, in addition to macro and general nature photography. Her cat photographs were published by T.H.F. publications in two of their cat breed books, one about American Shorthairs and the other featuring the Sacred Cat of Burma.

Additionally, as a prolific photographer with an eye for details, she will be publishing a number of books that are photo based with information about the photographs in them. The ability for these photos to now be able to be enjoyed in color on eReaders and eReader apps has inspired her to create a multitude of books on a large variety of subjects.

Her favorite subjects to photograph are butterflies, hummingbirds and macro images of flowers, in addition to wildlife and nature of all kinds. There will be many series of books about nature in general and by species, and wildlife plus beautiful locations that she has photographed.
