She Wore Emerald Then: Reflections on Motherhood was a USA Book News finalist for poetry and honored by the Military Writers Society of America. The idea is that these little books of about 35 pages can be popped into a greeting-card sized envelope or send as greeting cards by e-mail.
Kristin Johnson, screenwriter and founder of the Warrior Poets Project says, “[Both] poets continue to write poems that don’t sound either like banal Hallmark cards or the bitter-at-dysfunctional-family jeremiads that habitually torture MFA writing workshop participants.”
She Wore Emerald Then is available as both an e-chapbook and paperback and is illustrated with tender photographs by May Lattanzio. As it happens, it was released the week of the death of Carolyn’s mother—a fitting tribute. It is available as a free e-book from April 27 to April 30, just in time for Mother’s Day.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Not everyone agree, but I believe authors should be the joy of writing first. Fame and fortune–if it follows at all–will be more likely to follow the path created by love.
